Marissa von Stieglitz

National Operations Manager & Tasmanian Specialist
"Being from Tasmania, I’m passionate about my home state. Working in the accommodation property sector is great because it’s these businesses, large and small, that makes Tasmania accessible to tourists whether they’re locals or from interstate."

National Operations Manager since 2017, Marissa is one of ResortBrokers’ longest serving employees and an accomplished broker in her own right.

As area agent for Tasmania since 2021, she has notched up an impressive list of notable sales that includes the historic 14-room Franklin Manor in Strahan, Snug Beach Cabin & Caravan Park, Strahan Beach Tourist Park, Scamander Sanctuary Holiday Park, Low Head Tourist Park and the freehold going concern of the 16-cottage Cradle Mountain Highlanders. Marissa brought Cradle Mountain Highlanders to market for the first time in 20 years and received five highly competitive offers of which a Sydney couple were the ultimate buyers.

Marissa has also conjuncted with other brokers for sales outside Tasmania, including the management rights of Murray River Resort in Moama and Bayview Tower in Yeppoon, and the Freehold of  Abode37 in Emerald and the Chinchilla Motor Inn.

Marissa joined ResortBrokers in 2013, initially in our finance department, and quickly became an indispensable member of the team. Her initiative, tenacity and ever-positive attitude to problem-solving saw her promoted to National Operations Manager, a role she relishes, particularly for the opportunity it gives her to hit the road with our 30 plus brokers across the country and to help newer agents find their feet in their career.

“I was very fortunate to learn from the best in the business, ResortBrokers founder Ian Crooks and Managing Director Trudy Crooks,” says Marissa. “What they taught me about this business are skills that can’t be learned in a textbook. Everything from customer service, acting honesty and transparently, right through to the nuts and bolts of putting an accommodation deal together. It’s the best on-the-job training I could ever have hoped for. It’s really satisfying now to be able to pass that experience on to our new brokers.”

Tourism, travel and hospitality have been Marissa’s career passions from the outset. Born and bred in Tasmania, Marissa studied Hospitality and Tourism Management at the Drysdale Institute. She went on to work with a travel wholesaler that specialised in European coach tours.

A Queensland local since 2003, Marissa still enjoys visiting her home state any chance she can get.

“I’m passionate about Tasmania,” she says. “Tourist accommodation in the state has completely transformed since I was a student at Drysdale. It’s increasingly sophisticating with the influx of high-end hotels in Hobart and iconic destinations like Cradle Mountain, but there’s still a healthy market for families like mine who like to camp and caravan. Tassie has something for everyone, which makes the accommodation property business an exciting one to be a part of. I also really enjoy the satisfaction of setting up a first-time buyer in a good accommodation business and selling businesses for operators who are eyeing off a well-deserved retirement.”

Outside work, Marissa is all about family. Her and her husband Mick share four daughters, who keep them on their toes with endless sports and activities. During any free time they relish the opportunity to get away camping and exploring caravan parks across Australia.
