Government grants for Queensland border zone businesses

Has your tourism or hospitality business been affected by the closure of the Queensland-New South Wales border? If so, you may be entitled to financial support from the following government assistance packages.

The Queensland Government announced that a Joint Queensland and Australian Government funding of $40 million will be provided through the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Hardship Program.

This program will deliver one off grants of $15,000, $25,000 and $50,000 for small, medium and large employing businesses across Queensland that have experienced a reduction in turnover of at least 70 percent for at least seven consecutive days between July 1 and September 30.

The program will support employing tourism and hospitality operators to be ready for when interstate tourism markets fully open.

The State Government has also unveiled its border business zone support package for Queensland businesses impacted by the Queensland-New South Wales border closure.

The new package will provide $14.55 million in support to businesses along the border region in the areas of Coolangatta, Currumbin – Tugun, and Currumbin Waters and the border towns of Wallangarra, Goondiwindi and Mungindi.

Jointly funded by the Queensland and Australia Governments, the package includes hardship grants of $5000 for employing businesses and $1000 for non-employing sole traders, and extension of the COVID-19 Business Support Grants to enable eligible border businesses to apply.

The Queensland Government will also invest in local marketing campaigns in the border area to encourage border residents and Queenslanders to shop with local businesses.

Mental health support for business owners and their families will also be given a $700,000 boost.
