ResortBrokers appoint Alex Cook Director of Management Rights
National accommodation property agency ResortBrokers has appointed Director Alex Cook to a newly expanded role of Director of Management Rights, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to Australia’s management rights sector.
Mr Cook, who joined ResortBrokers in 2011, is widely recognised as one of Australia’s leading management rights specialists. Appointed a ResortBrokers’ director in 2018, he has received the industry’s highest honours, including ARAMA’s Broker of the Year award in 2019 and 2023. ARAMA, the management rights industry’s peak body, appointed Mr Cook as an associate director in 2021. Mr Cook was also received the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) Commercial Salesperson of the Year award in 2023.
“Alex’s appointment reflects both the strategic importance of management rights to ResortBrokers and his outstanding expertise and leadership in the sector,” ResortBrokers’ Managing Director Trudy Crooks told The Hotel Conversation.
Over a 15-year career with ResortBrokers, Mr Cook has completed more than 230 management rights transactions of assets with a combined value exceeding $800 million. In FY26, he settled 20 transactions worth more than $100 million in asset value, earning him ResortBrokers’ Top Management Rights Broker award, which he has won several times before.
His career has been marked by a number of industry-defining transactions, including the 2024 sale of neighbouring Rockhampton CBD properties The Edge Apartment Hotel and Empire Apartment Hotel — the largest ever management rights transaction in regional Australia. In 2015, he brokered the sale of the management rights to Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast for $25.7 million, setting a national record at the time.
Mr Cook transacts right across Australia and has had particular success in Victoria assisting several high-profile developers establish and sell short-stay businesses within their projects. In 2019-20, he was part of an industry group that successfully lobbied the Victorian Government against proposed changes to the Owners Corporation Act that would have threatened the establishment of certain short-stay businesses.

Beyond transactions, Mr Cook has played an influential role in shaping the management rights industry.
“As an associate director of ARAMA, Alex has made invaluable contributions to Queensland’s management rights sector and supported our advocacy aimed at strengthening and protecting the industry,” ARAMA CEO Trevor Rawnsley told The Hotel Conversation.
Mr Cook is also co-author of ResortBrokers’ annual Management Rights Report, now in its fourth edition. The report is the industry’s only quantitative national study, providing comprehensive analysis of market performance and the economic impact of the management rights sector across Australia. END
