US timeshare giant snares tropical Queensland resort
Melbourne businessman James Neville Smith has sold the Castaways Resort & Spa at Mission Beach after eight years on and off the market.
The 3400 square metre freehold at 2-14 Pacific Parade collected $5.8 million from Florida based timeshare giant Travel & Leisure Co.
A renovation of the 46 suites and common areas, including corridors and the gym, is planned.
It has also been rebranded to Club Wyndham Mission Beach.
Mr Smith paid $5.69m before also revamping.
He was represented for the sale by Resort Brokers’ Leah Bursztynowicz.
Name change
Travel & Leisure Co snared 2-14 Pacific Parade against an $8m asking price.
Four years ago, in a campaign managed by a different agency, it was seeking over $20m.
“We are not just refurbishing a resort but elevating the guest experience,” the company’s senior vice president, Operations, Warren Cullum, said.
“This is a long-term investment in the future o Mission Beach made on behalf of our close to 60,000 vacation owners to ensure they enjoy the highest standards of comfort in one of the most stunning locations in the world,” he added.
“The new design vision will be carried across all…studio, one bedroom, two bedroom and loft style apartments…creating an environment that both soothes and uplifts,” according to the executive.
Travel & Leisure Co now operates 56 Australian properties. END
