More coronavirus restrictions lifted as NSW re-opens regional travel
We promised to keep you informed of any major developments and provide business advice during the coronavirus crisis and there has been some really positive news in the past few days which will probably have a direct impact on you.
The first is that NSW has announced that residents will be able to travel around the region from June 1, while museums, art galleries and libraries will also open.
Pubs, clubs and cafes will be able to allow 20 people, double the number allowed at present.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said NSW would welcome people from other states.
That’s great news and an important factor to consider is that when Queensland relaxed its regional travel bans recently, we’re hearing from operators that it has led to a mini-spike in accommodation bookings from locals who are keen to travel again.
So for NSW operators, hopefully you’ll start getting phone calls and bookings again – as happened in Queensland – and once the border is finally opened, then I’m sure we’ll start to see a lot more movement.
A couple of other really good news stories for you:
- The South Australian Government has confirmed hotels will be allowed to start pouring beers from June 5, three days earlier than previously anticipated which means they can take advantage of the June long weekend trade.
- In other good news for South Australians, further restrictions will also be lifted on cafes and restaurants. From Friday this week, all cafes and restaurants will be allowed to seat up to 20 patrons – 10 indoors and 10 outdoors – and sell alcohol.
- Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says the airline is preparing for the resumption of domestic travel in the next two months with plans for $19 bargain flights and has urged states to lift coronavirus border closures by then.
So, all in all these are very positive steps on the road to recovery and I hope you’re all getting ready to start welcoming guests back to your property.
Stay safe and well, and feel free to call us at any time if you need any more information or just want some business advice during these difficult months.
